DALLAS (KRLD) - For nearly three decades, it's been a Dallas high school football tradition.

On Saturday evening at Kincaide Stadium, Kimball High School and Carter High School will rekindle their rivalry in what many call the "Oak Cliff Super Bowl."

The annual matchup first gained prominence in 1991, when Carter and Kimball were fighting for the district championship.  And while the two schools now reside in different classifications - Kimball is Class 5A Division II, while Carter is 4A Division I - the game is still a big deal.

At noon Friday, Dallas Councilmembers Casey Thomas and Tennell Atkins will host a City Hall Plaza news conference to highlight the historical significance of the Kimball-Carter game.  Thomas and Atkins will be joined at the event by the principals, head football coaches, football teams and bands from the respective schools.

Both squads come into the 2019 "Oak Cliff Super Bowl" at 1-0.  Dallas Kimball defeated Fort Worth Dunbar last week, 40-8.  Carter beat Houston Yates, 15-6.

Kickoff is at 6 p.m. Saturday at Kincaide Stadium, which is home turf for the two rival schools.
