DALLAS (1080 KRLD/NBC 5) - Police are investigating after a body was pulled out of White Rock Lake Saturday night by Dallas Fire-Rescue.
Officials say they were called to the lake around 5:45 p.m. when someone noticed something floating on the lake.
Police have confirmed that the body is that of 26-year-old Shanell Lindsey, a transgender woman.
Dallas police held a press conference today and said they have asked the FBI to assist them in the investigation.
Lindsey's cause of death has not yet been revealed, however, Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall said during a news conference Monday afternoon that police are investigating her death as a homicide and that there were obvious signs of homicidal violence. Hall said investigators would like to talk with anyone she may have last had contact with.
Last month, police asked the public for information on the attacks on three other transgender women, two of which were killed.
The latest involved Muhlaysia Booker, whose body was found face down in a Dallas street over two weeks ago.
Booker died from "homicidal violence," Major Vincent Weddington with Dallas police said. He did not elaborate on her death.
Booker's murder came one month after she was attacked at a Dallas apartment complex. The whole thing was caught on video and went viral. Weddington says this is the third case since late last year with some similarities.
The first incident occurred in October of 2018 when 29-year-old Brittany White was shot and killed in her vehicle in the 7100 block of Gayglen Drive.
The second incident involved a transgender female who was stabbed multiple times and left for dead in April. The stabbing victim survived and described her attacker as a large black man driving a silver truck.
Police don't know if the attacks are connected but are asking for the public to help them close the cases.
