FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - For many of us, this is the start of week number five for staying home unless absolutely necessary -- and given state and local orders, we have at least three more weeks to go.
Being stuck at home leads to very limited face-to-face with co-workers, friends and loved ones.
Clinical psychologist Diana Wenner says in a time like this, keeping in touch just by calling and texting is not enough.
"You have to use the video conferencing to stay in touch with whatever work and social groups you have," says Wenner. "I've seen people having a whole dinner party through Zoom, as well as doing their work meetings, as well as having a card game."
Over the last four weeks, people have been told over and over again to stay at home and only venture out when absolutely essential.
Wenner says staying inside 24/7 for days on end is simply not healthy.
"Staying inside without ever venturing outside mentally can lead to depression and anxiety and all sorts of very agitated behavioral moods," Wenner says. "Take a walk when you see that there's no one on the streets, because it's not going to help the social distancing if the whole neighborhood is out walking on the streets."
