The UIL's recent ruling has put one Dallas County school at a major disadvantage for this coming football season.

The UIL will have volleyball and football teams in Class 4A and below start their seasons on time, which means that Aug. 3 is their first day of fall workouts while 6A and 5A teams had their start dates delayed by five weeks and can begin workouts Sept. 7.

But Sunnyvale is 4A school and is in Dallas County, which puts them at a distinct disadvantage.

Dallas County ruled they can't practice until September 7. But they are the only 4A team in their district that is from Dallas County, so all their opponents will have weeks of practice under their belts.

Sunnyvale's Athletic Director and football coach John Settle says they will be 35 practices behind when his team takes the field.

With the way things stand now, Sunnyvale would not be able to play its first football game until Oct. 2 and could lose all five of its nondistrict games.

The other five teams in their district could start games Aug. 27.
