DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - School leaders across North Texas are brainstorming ways to make WiFi available to all students, all the time.
Many students enrolled in the Dallas and Fort Worth ISDs don’t have reliable access to WiFi. That means they can’t complete homework assignments or keep up with lesson plans.
Fifth grade teacher Genesis Castillo says many of her students at Adams Elementary school in Dallas don’t have equipment to work from, either.
Castillo tells our partners at NBC 5 something needs to be done to get kids access to WiFi, or they’re going to fall behind.
"Ninety five percent of my students only have a phone" says Castillo.
Dallas Superintendent Michael Hinojosa agrees. He says he’s looking for ways to get students access to Wifi.
One idea is to have the school district erect cell towers, a plan that could cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
Officials with the Fort Worth ISD say they’re looking into cell towers as well.
