FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The Fort Worth District of TxDOT is getting $4-billion from the Texas Transportation Commission for several road projects to improve safety and mobility.
Nearly half that money -- $1.7-billion -- will go towards the Southeast Connector.
"That is addressing the interchanges of I-20, 820 and 287," says Val Lopez with the Fort Worth District of TxDOT. "Basically that will upgrade all that area to modern direct connect interchanges, rebuild the highway and provide some TEXpress lanes."
Construction on that project is expected to begin in 2022.
State Highway 170 will also see improvements, thanks to the state funding.
"Basically what you have right there is frontage roads," says Lopez. "We're going to put in the main lanes. That's estimated to be a $170-million project.
Money will also go towards improvements to interstates 20 and 30.
It's all part of TxDOT's ten-year, $77-billion statewide transportation plan.
"The highways that people mostly travel will be benefiting from this additional funding," Lopez says.
