FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Parents in Tarrant County have a new tool available to them to help them decide whether to send their kids onto school campuses.
Tarrant County Public Health has launched a new dashboard that breaks down COVID-19 statistics within the attendance boundaries of each high school.
"You can go up there and really find out what is happening as far as infection rates pretty much in your neighborhood and in your community," says Brian Murnahan, Tarrant County Public Health spokesman. "You click on a high school, and it actually will show you a ring of where the high school boundary is, and it'll include your elementary school. And you'll be able to see, this is the infection rate that were seeing, not at the schools, but what we're seeing in your community."
The goal is to help parents decide whether to send their kids onto campuses or to have them learn online remotely.
"It's really out there so that we can make sure that our local elected leaders and our school districts have the great information that's available," says Murnahan, "as well as our parents and family members that are out there, so they can make the best decision for sending their kids to school or how they want to go out and interact in our community."
"The new dashboard, along with our existing education guidance, is designed to help our school leadership and parents understand their local COVID-19 infection rates so they can make the best decisions for their children," says Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja. "Right now, the health status of many of the school zones has improved to a point where a hybrid learning model may be appropriate."
