DALLAS (KRLD) - Officer John Griffith with League City police says an 81-year-old woman was walking her dog at Newport Park in League City.

Griffith says, "There were two dogs on the loose. One of them was a pit bull mix and the other was a mixed breed dog. The two dogs actually attacked her dog which was on a leash."

He says she tried to protect her dog and fell to the ground. He says the pit bull attacked her. A witness jumped out of a car and pushed the dog away. Animal control caught up with the dogs. The owner received six citations. The woman suffered cuts and bruises and her dog is okay.

Griffith says, "The pitbull is under quarantine for 10 days to make sure it doesn't have rabies.

Griffith also says, "Regardless of the breed of the animal, when dogs are out on the loose these types of things can happen. Other people are out walking their dogs and the other animals don't always get along. Unfortunately, in this case, the victim was an 81-year-old woman who was just trying to protect herself and her little dog."
