Dozens of people are out of their homes because of last night's three-alarm apartment fire in east Dallas.
The flames erupted just past 7 p.m. at an apartment complex on Ferguson near Lakeland about a mile-and-a-half from White Rock Lake.
Fire crews found flames already jetting through the roof along with heavy plumes of inky, black smoke.
With the addition of a third alarm, about 60 firefighters were assigned to the scene but the blaze was so bad commanders ordered them all out of the building to fight it from the outside in what firefighters call "defensive mode."
It seems all of the renters got out okay but one woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
