It happened at a home on the 2100 block of Sanborn Street, near I-30. A man who lives there says his daughter found the 7-year-old boy playing with a handgun in a laundry basket and tried to take it away from him. A tug of war ensued and the gun went off, striking both children.

The man told KRLD most of the adults living in the home had criminal records, so the gun was not supposed to be in the home.

Police did not say whether any charges would be filed.
