WACO (1080 KRLD) - Following the lead of Dallas, Waco has ordered it's residents to stay home.

Waco Mayor Kyle Deaver the number of cases in Texas, along with deaths, are growing. "Over the weekend, the leaders of the state's hospital networks contacted Governor Abbott and asked him to take statewide action to order residents to stay home across Texas.  They warned him the hospitals would be overwhelmed by late April if that action is not taken immediately.  The leaders of all three of our Waco hospitals and health care workers agreed with that warning.  Unfortunately yesterday the Governor declined to take that action, but he acknowledged that cities may need to enact more stringent measures."The order goes into effect at midnight. It expires in seven days, but could be extended.

There are exceptions for essential workers. Residents are allowed to visit the grocery store, the drug store and exercise outside. All residents are ordered to stay at least six feet from each other, except for members of their own household.   Deaver asks that only one household member at a time go to the grocery store.Violation of the order will result in a Class C misdemeanor citation.Deaver adds outdoor exercise such as walking, jogging, hiking and bike riding are encouraged as long as everyone maintains a distance of six feet from others.
