RICHARDSON (KRLD) - A Richardson man, sentenced to life in prison for the death of his 3-year-old daughter, is asking for a new trial.
An attorney for Wesley Mathews says his client should get a new trial because photos of the child's remains shown to the jury were prejudicial.
Mathews pleaded guilty to felony injury to a child in the death of his daughter Sherin in October of 2017. Mathews first reported the toddler missing, but after weeks of searching for her, he finally admitted she died at home and he disposed of her body in a culvert near his home.
The body was so badly decomposed the medical examiner could not determine a cause of death.
The judge is expected to rule on a new trial on September 5.
Mathews is currently serving his life sentence in Huntsville.
