PLANO (1080 KRLD) - Plano Police and Fire will host active shooter training for the public this week. The training is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the Plano Event Center.

The training will also include training on how to control bleeding. Plano Police say they hold training at businesses and faith-based organizations as requested, but they do not have a set schedule to hold public training.

"The community-wide events we offer based on what's happening in the rest of the world," says Plano Police Lieutenant Mica Lunt. "Certainly, as we saw in Ohio and California, we're offering this in response to that."

Lunt says Plano Police have held civilian training on how to handle active shooters before, but they scheduled this seminar as a response to those attacks.

"We understand that a lot of people are concerned, and they want to learn about what to do, so we're trying to address that need."

Lunt says training will focus on what civilians should do if they find themselves in an active shooter situation. People will learn the "run, hide, fight" strategy and how to control severe bleeding in any situation.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to register online. Training is free.

Training is expected to last 2.5 hours Tuesday evening at the Plano Event Center.
