ODESSA (1080 KRLD) - Crystal Munoz has been jailed since 2008 on a charge of conspiracy in a marijuana case. She drew a 15 year sentence.
A petition from her husband on Change.Org states, "She was arrested based on the word of individuals who were seeking a sentence reduction -- no drugs were seized from her personally."
She says she drew a map, on notebook paper, of a road in Big Bend National Park as a favor to friends, who would use the map to circumvent a drug checkpoint.
Those co-defendants then testified against Munoz. Amy Povah, founder of CAN-DO Justice Through Clemency says in Crystal's case was granted clemency by President Clinton on a conspiracy charge.
She says that charge is what she calls the 'best kept secret.' "If you further the conspiracy one step, even if it's a legal act like giving someone a car ride or mailing a FedEx package, you have furthered the conspiracy."
She says Munoz, who was pregnant at trial, had a baby while shackled, for most of the labor, to a hospital bed. Povah has been to the Trump White House four times and says the administration seems open minded about the case.
