DALLAS (KRLD) - More Americans than ever are undergoing plastic surgery.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released its statistics report for 2018, which revealed that Americans underwent more than 1.8 million cosmetic surgery procedures and the number continues to rise steadily. The statistics reveal a rise in body-shaping procedures, with a spike in non-invasive fat reduction, as well as surgeries such as breast augmentation and liposuction.

The Top 5 surgical procedures performed were:

  1. Breast Augmentation (313,735 procedures, up 4% from 2017)

  3. Nose Reshaping (213,780 procedures, down 2% from 2017)
  4. Eyelid surgery (206,529, down 1% from 2017)
  5. Tummy tuck (130,081 procedures, about the same as 2017)

Of the 15. 8 million minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures performed in 2018, the Top 5 were:

Dr. Alan Matarasso M.D., President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons who has his own practice in Manhattan, New York, says plastic surgery has improved drastically over the years, with doctors being able to perform procedures to specific body parts and to improve very specific issues. Dr. Matarasso urges patients to do research on doctors before agreeing to a procedure and adds surgeons you work with should be a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
