DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The sale of the Robert E. Lee statue in Dallas will have some strings attached.

Dallas city leaders say they have been contacted by groups who would like to purchase it since its removal in 2017.

The city council voted Wednesday to make sure any buyer would not display it publicly in the city.

But Councilman Ricky Callahan says this issue has taken up too much of the council's time.

"I would rather see us hire police officers, fix our streets, make improvements to our park lands. Anything is better than this. This has been a waste of money and time," he said.

The council also voted to sell the statue for at least $450,000 dollars, the cost it’s taken to remove and store the item.
