DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - An issue with an outside vendor forced several airlines to delay and cancel flights Monday morning.

In Dallas, Southwest Airlines grounded its entire fleet for about 40 minutes.

Southwest says it lifted the ground stop around 6:05 a.m. Central Time. The airline says a vendor was dealing with an outage that affected data used in flight planning.

At Love Field, Southwest was working with passengers and urging them to check in and move through security so they could board flights more quickly once the ground stop was lifted.

"I'm surprised it's this big, but I love Southwest, and it's not going to stop me from flying," one woman said as she waited at security. "I feel safe on a plane. It's just weird this is happening at so grand a scale."

The woman behind her said she still feels safe, but she worries that Southwest has dealt with other issues already this year.

"It seems like something needs to be done with our system, some kind of inspection," she said. "It seems like too frequently I hear of this."

Alaska, Delta, JetBlue and United Airlines were also having issues Monday morning. Southwest says it is working with customers whose travel plans would be affected.

"We appreciate their understanding as we place nothing higher than the safe operation of every flight," the airline wrote in a statement.

The issue had been resolved, but airlines said delays and cancellations may continue through the day. They are urging people to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
