DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Survivors of sexual abuse at the hands of North Texas clergy are calling for more action to be taken, after the names of accused priests were released yesterday.
Advocates want attorney general Ken Paxton to open his own independent investigation. Members of SNAP, or the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests, met in Dallas yesterday to share their experiences as the names were made public.
Survivors say while this was a good step forward, they're still not sure the lists tell the whole story. They believe an independent investigation by Paxton and other top law enforcement would do more to rebuild public trust in the Catholic church.
Of those accused priests revealed yesterday, about 30 were based in the Dallas diocese. Of those 30, about half are dead now. Most of the others have retired or been defrocked.
SNAP is urging people to reach out to Paxton about opening an investigation, while also encouraging abuse victims to get whatever help they need.
