FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A woman is behind bars in the Tarrant County Jail, accused of trying to kill her daughter.
Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn says Shawna Bieber, 22, was caught in the act on surveillance video.
"She had (an) infant child that she had on two different occasions, that we're sure of, where she was suffocating this child," says Sheriff Waybourn.
Bieber is charged with two counts of serious bodily injury to a child and is behind bars on $30,000 bond.
"She could serve up to 60 years in state penitentiary on serious bodily injury to a child," says Waybourn.
Meanwhile, the baby is in foster care and is thriving.
"The child is doing great," Waybourn says. "All reports are very, very positive that the child is doing well."
If it was up to Sheriff Waybourn, Bieber would never get her daughter back.
"When the big people in the room, we want to protect the babies," says Waybourn. "And it would be a good thing, in my opinion based on evidence I've seen, if someone went forward and terminated the rights of that parent and make sure that child has a good healthy home to come up in."
Waybourn says it's possible that Bieber may have tried suffocating her daughter to attract sympathetic attention onto herself.
"There are people who want extra attention in our society to themselves, and unfortunately hurting somebody else is one way to get that attention," Waybourn says.
