1080 KRLD (DALLAS) - The Texas Supreme Court will hear arguments in a case that may decide whether the county owes an inmate money because of a bad chair.

Tarrant County jail inmate Roderick Bonner went to the jail nurse...he didn't figure on getting hurt worse. But that's what he says happened when he was directed to sit in a chair that was broken. And it was a sheriff's deputy that had broken it. Court papers say the deputy reported the broken chair but somehow it wound up at the nurse's station.

When Bonner sat down...the chair collapsed and Bonner said he was injured.

Bonner sued the county, himself. A judge threw out the suit but Bonner, acting as his own lawyer, convinced an appeals court to overturn the decision. The Texas Supreme Court will now decide if the county had an obligation to provide the inmate with a solid chair.
