It is only August, but already, authorities are urging Americans to look at getting a flu shot.
Health experts say it is especially important that the U.S. vaccinate a large portion of the population against influenza this year. The logic is that if fewer people catch the flu this fall and winter, the burden on the already-strapped health care system will be lessened.
In addition, authorities say the flu shot response could be an indicator of the public's willingness to take a potential COVID-19 vaccine.
KRLD's Chris Sommer spoke with Global Biorisk Advisory Council Executive Director Patty Olinger, who is among the nation's leading experts on infectious diseases.
