Inspiring hockey movie now playing in North Texas
Texas native Ashlee C. has transformed her vision into a reality with her latest film, "Black Ice: The Rhythm."
The movie, which tackles issues of inequality in ice hockey, is a faith-based, feel-good film designed to inspire and uplift audiences.
Set against the backdrop of a community ice rink, "Black Ice: The Rhythm" dives into the challenges and triumphs faced by minority youth in competitive sports.
Ashlee C. revealed the origin of the film, saying, "I was teaching at a film resort, and one of the students who happened to be the director showed us a Rip-O-Matic video made from stock footage. It was so good, I begged him to read the script." She added, "Once I read the story, I knew that it had to come to life. I told him I would do whatever I needed to do in my power to help bring the story to life."
The film is now available for viewing at Galaxy Theaters at Grandscape in The Colony on a limited run through June 27th.
Ashlee is enthusiastic about what audiences will take away from the film. "First, I think that they will be proud of a piece that is so unique to its kind. I feel like people would take away how accessible God is, how easy it is for the enemy to come in and distract and destroy and kill," she explained. "The way that these boys and their coach overcome and navigate through those situations is so inspirational."
In addition to its faith-based messages, the film also addresses real-world issues of diversity and access in sports.
"Unfortunately, it is a thing that happened in the underprivileged community. The community center we filmed in went through a similar situation," Ashlee remarked.
The movie's young stars are actual hockey players from their community center, portraying their real-life experiences on screen.
Ashlee hopes the film will inspire change and promote diversity within the sport.
"I'm hoping that the sport itself diversifies. We want the young youth, no matter the color, especially minorities, to have the same opportunities to accomplish and become who God says He needs them to become," she said.
Despite the deep themes, Ashlee assures that the film is a family-friendly experience.
"It's a really fun movie, although it sounds pretty deep. It's really fun. I like to say it's a 'Mighty Ducks' meets the 'Bad News Bears.' It's for the whole family, and it's just a cool way to hang out with the family, literally staying cool inside as it's a hockey movie."
