Orchestra of New Spain will present the Atlas Tango Project and a work called "The Angel of Buenos Aires." Weaving classical ballet and sultry tango steps, the work features stunning movements based on two of Piazzolla's most loved suites of music – Suite del Angel and Suite del Diablo. Children of a Lesser God
Children of a Lesser God (COLG) was written in 1979 and won the Tony for Best Play in 1980. It was made into a movie in 1986 starring Marlee Matlin, a Deaf woman who'd never acted before. Matlin went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actress, making her the first Deaf actor to win an Oscar. As the first and only play to integrate Deaf and hearing characters - with Deaf roles performed strictly by Deaf actors - COLG remains one of the most unique theatrical shows ever written.

DSO: Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony
Showing off the power and majesty of "the king of instruments," Bradley Hunter Welch is at the Lay Family Concert Organ where the DSO, led by Fabio Luisi, performs Saint-Saëns's grand Romantic "Organ Symphony." The composer told the commissioning body that it "will be terrifying, I warn you." But do not be afraid; you'll be safely guided to the blazing C Major chord that sets the last movement in motion.
Also featured on this program are pieces written by local SMU professor and composer Xi Wang, and DSO Composer-in-Residence Sophia Jani. In Xi's work the unusual instrument pairing of the trumpet and violin in YEAR 2020 reflects the work's inspiration from the tumultuous and unprecedented world created in the wake of the global pandemic.

Dust Bowl
Anthony J. Maglione's acclaimed music triumphantly returns to Dallas, played to sold-out audiences during its world premiere in 2020. The commissioned work, which Dallas critics hailed as "breathtaking" and "unlike anything else in our city," features first-hand accounts of survivors of the Dust Bowl with additional newspaper articles and diary entries.
