DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys are moving on from wide receiver James Washington.
Dallas elected to release Washington on Wednesday after the wideout was made a healthy scratch in the team's previous two games, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Washington missed the first 12 games of the season after suffering a broken foot early in training camp. He was activated for the game against the Texans in Week 14 and was targeted by quarterback Dak Prescott just once.
Washington's role was expected to grow as the team's negotiations with free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. were in limbo, but once it became evident that Beckham Jr. wouldn't be healthy enough to play for several more weeks, the Cowboys pounced on another free agent receiver in T.Y. Hilton, who has immediately assumed a spot in the team's wideout rotation the last two weeks.
Washington will head to waivers where he can be claimed by another team.
