As it turns out, Gardner Minshew II going for two, and failing, was good for the stats.
The Dallas Cowboys’ 51-26 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Saturday’s season-finale wasn’t exactly a great result for Philly, but it saw several records: the Birds set team marks for rushing yards and touchdowns in a season, Dak Prescott set a career-high with five TD passes and a Cowboys single-season passing TD mark, and the ‘Boys saw a franchise-record 22nd player find the end zone.
Oh, yeah, and scorigami, too, as it was the first-ever 51-26 final in NFL history, marking the 1,072nd unique final score in NFL lore.
It’s the sixth scorigami of the 2021 season and first since Dec. 12, when the Chiefs’ 48-9 win over the Raiders was unique final number 1,071. Eleven teams have been involved in those six events, with the Colts on the winning end of two different scorigamis, their 45-30 win over the Jets in Week 9 and 41-15 win over the Bills in Week 11.
Had the Birds gotten the two, or just kicked the PAT and had the game end either 51-27 or 51-28? The former has happened twice, in 1976 and 1987, while the latter has happened just once, in 2013. Also, had Greg Zuerlein hit his lone missed PAT, well, 52-26 also would’ve been scorigami, but 52-27 and 52-28 had previously happened.
Scorigami serendipity!
