DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Former star running back Emmitt Smith has some suggestions for how the Cowboys can get back on the right track.

Smith was asked on Shan and RJ Thursday what would be the first thing he would do this offseason if he was the Cowboys general manager.

"Right now, I would look at trying to solidify (and) improve upon the offensive line and our defensive front. I think those two areas definitely need to be solidified because of some of the holes we've had last year on the offensive line with guys getting hurt. We got some guys who are great players but their bodies are not holding up, so we need to have some solid backups," Smith said.

"On the defensive front, we need to get more pressure on the quarterback. I know the change in our defensive style last year kind of hurt us a little bit. Dealing with COVID also kind of set us back, but that's no excuse. At the end of the day, I'm looking for guys, that when they are drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, they know what to expect. I don't have to tell them. They should walk in knowing that this is an area of greatness, and greatness is what's required by each and every player that we draft. And we're going to set a culture of belief that we are the best, we're going to play like the best, we're going to prepare like the best, and we're going to go out and compete every day like we're the best. And I don't think any other organization outside of the Pittsburgh Steelers has shown that consistency than the New England Patriots. And that's what I look for. I look for those types of standards and that's the standard we need to set here as the Dallas Cowboys as an organization. I know Jerry and Stephen have done it through style and class already. There's no debating that. Now, we just got to have the product on the football field reflect exactly what the style and the class look like on a consistent basis."

Smith also talked about Ezekiel Elliott and said Tom Brady is "God's gift to man." Listen to the entire interview below or watch the video above.
