Emmitt Smith already went viral this week in Las Vegas when he voiced his displeasure with the Cowboys' latest early playoff exit, saying on the 'Maggie and Perloff Show' that he would have fired Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy if we were the general manager.
The Cowboys legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer joined Shan, RJ and Bobby on radio row Friday to further discuss why he would have moved on from McCarthy after the Cowboys' disappointing loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round, and he was ready to go viral again.
"The reason I was surprised [that McCarthy was coming back] is because of the things that were discussed last year. And you let Kellen [Moore] go, and Mike is running the offense as the coordinator, and there's supposed to be some level of commitment to running the rock, and I didn't see that. And you start looking at some of the things that transpired late in the season -- from a head coaching standpoint, some of the decisions that were made by the coordinator himself (McCarthy) -- It didn't line up," Smith said. "The way we got bounced out of the playoffs. Oh, my gosh. It was such an embarrassing moment. I hate even talking about it because the more I talk about it, the more angry I get it. I can't drink enough of this stuff [tequila] to forget about it."
Smith was also critical of the team's toughness and said that until their mentality changes, the playoff results will be the same.
"You know what tough looks like? Tough looks like what San Francisco did to us. And you saw what being bullied looks like? They bullied us. You saw [how people feel when you get bullied (against Detroit), that was a clear reflection of us not coming back. All you got to do is challenge this [team's toughness]. So if you're not built like that from the head down, you're not going to play at that level. ... You can't just turn it on when you want to."
Smith also spoke about what the Cowboys teams of the last 20 years are missing compared to the Super Bowl-winning teams he was a part of in the 90s, why he would keep Dak Prescott, and much more.
