The Dallas Mavericks and Kyrie Irving agreed to a three-year, $119 million contract extension to keep the nine-time All-Star in Dallas through the 2027-28 season.
Irving can opt out of the contract after the 2026-27 season, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
The deal comes less than three hours before Irving had to decide on his $43 million player option for next season. By declining the option and signing a new deal, the Mavs will be permitted to use the $5.7 million taxpayer mid-level exception this offseason to pursue a temporary starting point guard while Irving recovers from a torn ACL. Irving is not expected to return until January at the earliest.
