Months of waiting is finally over for Dallas Cowboys fans. This weekend they'll find out who the team picks up in the NFL Draft to bolster the roster after a lackluster effort in free agency.
The Cowboys have seven picks going into the draft, including No. 24 in Thursday's first round.
KRLD's John Liddle asked Kyle Youmans from DallasCowboys.com if there was any chance the team doesn't take an offensive lineman with their opening pick.
"As much as the NFL draft is not a 100% with how things can play out, I think this is about as close as you can get. So I'm gonna say 95%, I think the Cowboys go offensive line," Youmans predicted. "There are just too many tackles, too many guards, too many centers that are first round caliber players. The draft and the value just lines up perfectly."
Kyle identified three offensive linemen the Cowboys could target with pick No. 24.
Graham Barton ︳ Center ︳ Duke ︳6-5 313
Youmans' take: "He has that position flex that the Cowboys have valued in the past. He can play offensive line at any position. He's a tackle out of college, but he translates better as an interior offensive lineman. He's played left tackle snaps too. But his measurements and his length probably plays as a guard and as a center. If he's available at 24, I don't think they hesitate. And then they would bump Tyler Smith either out to tackle or have Graham Barton play center."
Tyler Guyton︳ Tackle︳ Oklahoma ︳6-8 322
Youmans' take: "He's pretty inexperienced at the left tackle position, but his measurables are better for the position. And I think his inexperience bodes well because of the fact that he played well in his limited amount of time. But he has so many traits, so many measurables that offensive linemen should have going to the next level, and I think the Cowboys value that very highly. And he has a 'high ceiling,' as we like to call it in draft scouting circles. He can certainly turn into a great player."
Jordan Morgan︳ Guard/Tackle︳ Arizona ︳6-5 311
Youmans' take: "He's also one of those players that has some guard and tackle flex. He can play both. I think he's better as a guard, and if they end up selecting him, I think Tyler Smith is your left tackle of the future and Jordan Morgan would play guard."
But Youmans says there's also a possibility that the Cowboys would trade down in Thursday's first round to pick up more quality picks later in the draft.
