The XFL and USFL have merged to create one spring football league. The United Football League begins play March 30.

The Arlington Renegades moved from the XFL to the UFL and will continue play at Choctaw Stadium across Randol Mill from Globe Life Field.

"Eliminating four teams from the USFL and eliminating four teams from the XFL from a year ago, every team got to choose the best player from eight different teams," says Renegades Coach Bob Stoops.

The Arlington Renegades will hold an open practice Saturday at Choctaw Stadium. The practice from 9:30 to 11:45 is open to both season ticket holders and the public.

Last year, the Arlington Renegades won the XFL championship. This year, Stoops says the reduced number of teams will make the combined league more competitive.

"The talent pool is much stronger, better, with more competition," he says.

Also joining from the XFL are the San Antonio Brahmas. Houston will have a UFL franchise called the Roughnecks, but that is a continuation of the Houston Gamblers franchise from the USFL assuming the nickname of the XFL's Houston Roughnecks.
