DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Now that the NBA Finals are complete, we can turn our attention to the offseason and how the Mavericks can improve after their first round exit in the NBA playoffs.

But could their big leap not come until the 2021 offseason?

NBA Insider Brian Windhorst said Tuesday on 'The Jump' that the Mavs will be pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo if he becomes a free agent next offseason.

"The Dallas Mavericks are gonna be at the head of the line in pursuing Giannis. They want to have a third star," Windhorst said.

The Mavericks arguably have one of the brightest outlooks in the NBA with young stars Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis in tow.

"They want to keep their books clear for 2021," added Windhorst. "I wouldn't expect them to add any major free agents this year. They're going to wait."

Antetokounmpo is eligible for a supermax extension this offseason with the Milwaukee Bucks. Whether the Greek Freak would be amenable to signing a new max deal with Milwaukee, the city that transformed him from a little-known international player to one of the league’s brightest young stars, remains to be seen.

Radio.com Sports insider Brian Scalabrine previously said the Mavericks have a shot at getting Antetokounmpo if he were to leave Milwaukee after next season.
