DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys made a move to increase their cap flexibility on Wednesday afternoon, cutting veteran punter Chris Jones following 10 seasons with the team.

Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning news was first to report the release.

The move will save the Cowboys $2 million in total cash, with Jones counting for just $500,000 in dead money against the cap, per Gehlken.

In his 10 seasons, Jones had a solid run with the Cowboys, averaging 44.5 yards per punt. Jones had his injury issues last season, missing eight games, but also had a stretch run of 120 consecutive games played from 2013-2020.

Jones also acted as the team's primary placeholder on field goals.

Dallas now moves on to find another punter in the free agency market, which officially opened on Wednesday afternoon.
