Morning commuters in North Texas were jolted Monday by another spike in gasoline prices. Many local stations that were charging $3.99 per gallon for regular unleaded on Friday were up to $4.19 coming out of the weekend.
Gas Buddy Head of Petroleum Analysis Patrick DeHaan said higher oil prices are a big reason behind the latest jump at the pump. And with Memorial Day three weeks away, he said we could be in for a "bumpy ride" when it comes to gas prices leading up to the first holiday weekend of the summer driving season.
The record high gasoline price for Dallas-Fort Worth, $4.08 a gallon, was established in early March. DeHaan said we could threaten that record in the near future.
According to AAA, the Texas average for regular unleaded stood at $3.995 Monday, up 13 cents from a week earlier. The statewide average for diesel was at $5.24, with that price jumping by 24 cents in the past seven days.
DeHaan gave his short-term outlook for gasoline and diesel prices as he spoke with KRLD's Chris Sommer.
