When longtime New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton announced he was leaving the team after 16 seasons, speculation immediately started to ramp up among some Dallas Cowboys fans.
Payton, who led the Saints to their only Super Bowl title, was a member of Bill Parcells' staff in Dallas from 2003-2005. He left the Cowboys for New Orleans in 2006, when the city was on the verge of collapse following Hurricane Katrina.
WWL Radio's Dave Cohen said Payton not only put a winning product on the field, he also helped bring the city back from the brink of disaster. Cohen said the Payton announcement was like a "gut punch" for many fans in New Orleans. Payton said he will consider coaching again, and Cohen said a big fear among Saints fans is that he will jump back to the Cowboys, who are an NFC rival just one state over from Louisiana.
