Good news for new grads: Texas is one of the best states to start your career.

A new study from Bestcolleges.com ranks Texas #4 in the nation, behind only New York, California and Illinois.

The "Best and Worst States to Start Your Career" rankings looked at nine different factors: average rent price, cost of living, average entry-level salary, number of job openings, racial/ethnic diversity, percentage of young people between the ages of 25 and 34, women's equality, educational attainment, and "level of fun" (entertainment, recreation, and attractions).

"What makes Texas stand out is its populations and the opportunities that are available there," says Jessica Bryant from BestColleges. "Texas has the second highest number of job openings, it ranks in the top five for its level of racial and ethnic diversity, and it also ranks in the top 10 for its percentage of young people and level of overall fun."

Bryant says that Texas came up short in women's equality (40th) and entry-level salaries (33rd).

The five worst states are New Hampshire (46th), Vermont (47th), Montana (48th), Maine (49th) and West Virginia (50th).
