When Willow Bend Mall in Plano was sold to a group of investors led by Dallas-based Centennial last May, the new owners promised major changes to the once thriving shopping mall. Now, the plan for Willow Bend Mall has been revealed by recent filings with the City of Plano’s planning department.

While shopping will still be a major component, the new Willow Bend Mall will feature office space, apartments and a hotel as well.

In recent years, Willow Bend Mall has seen a number of changes, with popular shops closing and a shift to dining throughout the space. Now, even more changes are coming as the new plan for the mall will see half of the enclosed mall torn down as part of the multi-year construction project to add an 18-story hotel, a 7-story office building and three 5-story buildings with a total of 960 apartments.

According to Dallas Morning News, there will still be 400,000-square-feet of retail with Dillard’s, Macy’s and Neiman Marcus remaining at their current location.

“Willow Bend will still be a shopping destination but by repurposing the retail space, which was too big for the way people shop today, and the surrounding unused parking, it becomes a productive property. That’s our goal,” said Centennial’s President Whitney Livingston.

While this plan is still a long way from completion, many are excited to see what’s to come for Willow Bend Mall.
