Meet haunted creatures at the zoo
The Detroit Zoo's annual Zoo Boo! event offers a lowkey, family-friendly alternative to the horrorcore bashes around the city. For the special celebration the usual animal residents are joined by stilt walkers, jugglers, aerialists and mimes. If you get a chance to stop by the zoo in the weeks leading up to the big day, you can even watch various animals tear apart pumpkins filled with tasty treats.

See Nosferatu with a live orchestra
Horror cinema peaked back in 1929 with F.W. Murnau's retelling of the Dracula story. See the film in the hall of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, where the Andrew Alden Ensemble brings the silent classic to life in all its unsettling glory with live music. Maybury Farm out in Northville hosts one of the best corn mazes in the midwest each year. Explore a haunted theme park
Since 2006, Scarefest Scream Park has been terrifying visitors with acres and acres of creepy attractions, haunted houses and costumed ghouls out in Lenox. The apex of Halloween haunts, though, is the Survive the Night horror experience, in which attendees camp out overnight as murderous nightmares of all kinds torture and haunt them in the dark. It's not for the faint of heart.
