One person was shot and killed by police early Thursday morning at an apartment complex in Haltom City after officers responded to a disconnected 911 call, police say.

The incident began around 1 a.m. when officers received a call from someone at the Heritage Apartments near Highway 377 and Belknap Street, requesting officers respond to the location. The line disconnected shortly after the request, Haltom City police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a person they said was “hesitant to communicate.” Police did not release further details about the interaction but confirmed that, at some point during the encounter, an officer fired their weapon, striking the individual.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity was not immediately released, and authorities said it remained unclear whether the individual who was shot was the same person who made the initial 911 call.

Haltom City police did not immediately provide information on what led to the shooting. The incident remains under investigation.
