Firefighters had to rescue people from a burning apartment building in Hurst.

The two-alarm fire broke out at the Hurst Estates Apartments on Precinct Line Road Friday morning.

Fire crews from several agencies responded.

"We had everybody there from North Richland Hills, Richland Hills, Euless, Bedford, Fort Worth," Hurst assistant fire chief Brent Craft said.

As they arrived, the fire was starting to spread.

"It already started spreading to the second floor," Craft said. "There were probably two apartments that were heavily damaged."

And some of the people in that building found themselves without a way to get out.

"They had a person that was trapped up on the second floor that couldn't get out of the breezeway due to the fire below," Craft said. "So one of our guys went up and got the gentleman down."

In all, two units sustained fire damage and others sustained smoke damage.

12 people are displaced; the Red Cross is helping those people find places to stay.

Craft said everyone made it out safely.

"We had no injuries as far as the fire goes, civilians or sworn personnel," Craft said.

The cause is still under investigation.
