Three men accused in a deadly motel shooting in Garland are now facing both state and federal charges, authorities announced Monday.
Yosguar Aponte-Jimenez, Jose Trivino-Cruz, and Jesus Bellorin-Guzman were arrested in connection with a string of violent crimes that investigators say targeted sex workers staying at local motels.
According to Garland police, the men devised a scheme to rob prostitutes, believing the victims would be less likely to report the crimes. Detectives linked the group to a June 20 robbery at a Garland motel and a separate shooting at another motel that resulted in a man's death.
All three suspects are facing capital murder charges in Dallas County. In addition, federal prosecutors say U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued detainers for each of the men, who are believed to have entered the U.S. illegally from Venezuela between 2023 and 2025.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released the name of the homicide victim.
