A 3-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot in the head while sitting inside a car outside Hunt County Regional Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon, authorities say.
According to Greenville police, the child’s mother told officers that the girl found a loaded shotgun in the car, and the weapon discharged.
Police said they received a call from the medical center reporting that doctors were treating a young child for a gunshot wound. When officers arrived, they determined the shooting occurred in the hospital parking lot.
Investigators have not released further details on what led to the shooting but described the incident as isolated. Police said there are no suspects at large.
The investigation is ongoing.
