Dr. John Duncan, founder and CEO of ViaScan is on a mission to change the narrative around heart health.
"Heart attacks are preventable, but the key to preventing a heart attack is early detection compared with effective treatments," asserts Dr. Duncan.
With February being Heart Month, we'll hear a lot of stats about heart disease being the leading cause of death for men and women in the U.S.
Awareness is important. But even more important is saving lives.
"It all starts with early detection," he emphasizes.
At ViaScan, they see all stages of heart disease on a daily basis, including advanced cases that may go undetected.
"There's a lot of misunderstandings when it comes to heart health, how to prevent heart attacks, and effective treatments," Dr. Duncan explains. "We really need to educate people, just like women have mammograms for early detection of breast cancer."
Dr. Duncan emphasizes the need to shift focus from relying on how one feels to understand their true heart health.
"Don't rely on how you feel as an accurate indicator of your true health," he firmly states. "The only way to truly know is to see if you have heart disease and heart plaque, and the scan can find it as tiny as 1 millimeter in size."
In addition to heart disease, ViaScan extends its screening to the early detection of different cancers. "We are able to scan the body for lung cancers, gallstones, kidney cancer, and reproductive issues," Dr. Duncan shares. It’s a holistic approach to health that aims to empower individuals to take control of their well-being.
As Heart Month continues, Dr. Duncan's passionate plea to the public is clear: "We need to get a heart scan for early heart disease detection."
