A virtual learning option at Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD in growing demand

The Hurst-Euless-Bedford school district does not have a virtual learning option yet...but more and more parents are demanding such an option, especially for younger students.

The motion for an online learning option went no where during last night's board meeting. But with the demand growing, the issue is expected to be brought up again at Friday night's board meeting.

The option under consideration would allow students from kindergarten to sixth grade to enroll in virtual-only education as those students are too young to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

The district would have to pay for the virtual option, which would cost about $1.2 million dollars. Virtual teachers would have to be hired, at least 25 of them to start with.

A possible mask mandate could also be discussed Friday night as well. One board member says a mask mandate might make parents more comfortable about sending students to school in person.
