FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- Fifty cars received "family emergency kits" Thursday outside a church in Southeast Fort Worth. Since the start of the pandemic a year ago, Morning Star Prayer Center says it has distributed 111,244 meals to 68,655 people.

"Our sanctuary is a warehouse," says the church's founder, Helen Epps. "We don't have chairs in there. It's a warehouse, so when people have a need, we try to meet that need right where they are."
Thursday morning, one of the church's partners, World Vision, gave Epps a plaque and flowers as a "thank you" for her work over the past year.
"One of our long-term goals is to help provide jobs," Epps says. "We just want to be a blessing to help people. That's what we're about is a hand-up. Not a hand-out because that's temporary."
World Vision says it has given 3.3 million meals and 602,739 emergency kits in North Texas over the past year. The organization has a disaster response hub in Grand Prairie.
"The need is not going to disappear," says World Vision's Roberta Taylor. "It doesn't matter how much you provide, there's still always a need."
Taylor says partnerships with churches like Morning Star Prayer Center can help reach those without transportation to reach food pantries or mobile events set up by the area's food banks.
"Just knowing we are a part of something that is helping so many people during this pandemic, just knowing lives are being changed, just having the opportunity to come out and be a part of it is really a great blessing," Taylor says.
