American Airlines' flight attendants have put the airline on the clock.

The Association of Professional Flight Attendants next month may move one step closer to going on strike.

The APFA's board of directors is slated to meet following the next bargaining session with the Fort Worth-based airline on November 17th.

"They need to bring it to a close, and we have now set a deadline," says Paul Hartshorn Jr., APFA spokesman. "If there's not significant substantial movement towards concluding these negotiations, we will approach our union board of directors for permission to ask the mediator to be released into a 30-day cooling off period, at which time after that we would be free to strike American Airlines."

This comes as, according to the APFA, talks with American have gone nowhere.

"In the last negotiation session, company negotiators had no response to our comprehensive economic and non-economic proposals," says Hartshorn.

The flight attendants recently voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike.

"93% of them participated in the vote, and 99.47% authorized a 'yes' for strike if necessary," Hartshorn says. "Of course, it's the last thing that we want to do. It's not easy on anyone, but we're willing to do and will do what it takes to secure the contract that we've earned."

The union says flight attendants will stage a system-wide picket on Thursday, November 16th.

KRLD has reached out to American Airlines for reaction and is waiting to hear back.
