Gov. Greg Abbott declared a disaster for 143 counties due to rising wildfire risks, with more possibly being added.
North Texas counties include: Collin, Denton, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, and Wise.
He also ordered the Texas Division of Emergency Management to mobilize additional resources to help local firefighters.
Abbott highlighted the hot and dry October as a major factor and urged Texans to be cautious and listen to officials.
The Texas A&M Forest Service noted that drought conditions are increasing wildfire risks, especially with upcoming windy weather.
Over 80 wildfires have burned more than 2,200 acres in the past week alone.
