Texas is getting shortchanged when it comes to receiving COVID vaccines according to Governor Abbott. At a business roundtable discussion in San Antonio Abbott was asked about the limits on the State's vaccination efforts. "We're asking the Federal Government for more vaccines," said Abbott. "I've heard that Texas is not receiving its sufficient per-capita allotment."
Abbott went on to acknowledge that Pfizer and Moderna can only manufacture so much vaccine and the US has a limit on available vaccines. "We do have good news on the horizon," said Governor Abbott. "Dr. Fauci indicated that we can expect an additional vaccine becoming available in a matter of weeks. It's the Johnson & Johnson vaccine that requires one-shot and not two-shots."
Abbot is expecting the vaccinations to increase dramatically once the new vaccines receive the needed federal approval. "We will be able to finish 'Category 1B' of the vaccination regimen and then go to 'Category 1C' very quickly." Abbott added that they're increasing the number of providers to administer the vaccine and assembling mobile units to make sure that underserved areas are able to receive the vaccine.
