White Settlement police have said a horrific incident in which a drunk driver plowed into the side of a house and killed a teenager is made even more upsetting by the fact that the driver had several prior DWI convictions.
"He's got multiple arrests," said White Settlement Police Chief Cook. "Three convictions that we found, two of them in Florida for Driving While Intoxicated, and one in Georgia." Cook said most of the convictions are from the 80s and 90s, except for a recent arrest in Tarrant County. It's not clear if that one led to a conviction.
Cook said police believe Gruber was once again driving while drunk when he lost control of his truck, crashing through trees and fencing before landing in the house.
"It really infuriates me, as a police chief, that you have somebody with multiple convictions over the last couple of decades, and that they still operate a vehicle intoxicated," Cook said. "It's very disheartening and we need to do something as a society that keeps people like this from being able to operate a vehicle."
