Dallas (1080 KRLD) - One of two men accused of the brazen murder of Dallas rap artist Mo3 has pleaded guilty to federal charges.
Devin Brown, 28, admitted to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Federal prosecutors say Brown had an AK-47 and a Glock 45 caliber handgun in his Duncanville apartment when it was searched on July 1, 2019.
Brown is one of two men suspected of killing Mo3, whose real name was Melvin Noble, during a wild foot chase on I-35E near Marsalis on November 11, 2020. Noble had stopped his car on the expressway when he was confronted by two gunmen. He was shot as he tried to run away.
Brown and Kewon White, 23, were arrested for the shooting. Both are facing murder charges in Dallas County Court.
In the federal court hearing, Brown told U.S. Magistrate Renee Toliver that he was guilty of possessing the firearms after having been convicted of a felony and with conspiracy to distribute the drug 2 Flouro MDMB-Butinaca. Toliver will recommend U.S. District Judge Ed Kindeade accept the plea and set a hearing for Oct. 13.
While federal prosecutors have agreed not to seek more than 20 years in federal prison, Brown seemed surprised to learn that Kinkeade has the option of running any sentences consecutively. He ultimately agreed to the plea deal.
It is not believed the federal plea deal affects the murder charge that is still pending in Dallas County court. The Dallas County District Attorney’s office has not responded to a request for clarification.
