Dallas Mavericks owner Miriam Adelson publicly urges President Donald Trump to consider running for a third term during a White House Hanukkah reception this week, saying she would pledge another $250 million in political support if he did.
The remarks came at the official Hanukkah celebration at the White House, where Adelson, one of Trump’s largest political donors, spoke directly to the president about the possibility of continuing his leadership beyond a second term. Reports from the event indicate the suggestion drew attention because the U.S. Constitution currently limits presidents to two elected terms.
Adelson, a Las Vegas casino executive and recent majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks, has been a major financial backer of Trump and Republican causes for years. During the 2024 election cycle, she and her family spent hundreds of millions of dollars supporting Trump-aligned campaigns and political action committees.
While Trump has acknowledged the constitutional barrier to a third term, he has periodically joked or mused publicly about extending his time in office, comments that have fueled political debate but have not been tied to any formal effort to change the law. Any third-term bid would require a constitutional amendment, a process that would need broad approval from Congress and the states.
The White House has not announced any plans to pursue changes to presidential term limits, and Trump has not formally responded to Adelson’s remarks beyond acknowledging them at the event.
